The amount of water used by the colleges is perhaps surprising given that the main use across Bloomsbury is for domestic (toilets and kitchens) and hospitality.
We do have a number of laboratories which account for some consumption, particularly in LSHTM but this is only part.
Technical solutions to reduce water use are being investigated including:
-
Percussion and Sensor taps
-
Flow regulators in taps and showers
-
Reuse systems for toilets and even waterless urinals
As much of the water we use is heated, there is also an associated consumption of energy which we also would like to reduce. Temperature settings are reviewed to minimise waste whilst ensuring that legal requirements are met.
Like energy, there are simple steps you can take to reduce water use both at the colleges and at home.
