3rd-4th Whale of a Time Festival - ESRC Festival of Social Sciences

- The event is an inspiring and empowering way of getting involved in social and environmental issues through exclusive film screenings by award-winning environmental film-makers followed by informative discussions with leading environmental and social researchers, sustainable art exhibitions, music and the Whale of a Time Workshop in celebration of the world’s oceans and rainforests.

- A cycle ride from the new Birkbeck building in Stratford to the Malet Street building - That's over 9 miles!
- The Greenthing team will be taking part to support the college and promote cycling
- You can sponsor the team by going to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/bbksquareroute and logging your support. All proceeds will go to the Student Hardship Fund.

- Camden Council are hosting a week of free cycling information stands including cycle guides, exchanging places, Dr Bike safety checks and bike marking with the Metropolitan Police.

- There will be a definite green theme this week with lots of information about how to be more sustainable at home and at work.
- You can collect water saving devices for your shower and bathroom; food waste saving ideas; or purchase a Greenthing cup. Proceeds will be donated to the IoE Green Fund
2nd - CRC Nominated Officers Training
- 10-2pm, Gordon Square
- Designed to give all staff involved in the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme of their college a good overview of the legislation and what this means for their role
- This includes staff nominated directly for a role in the CRC but also Estates Managers, Energy Managers, Maintenence staff, any staff with information that is required to feed into the submission in July

31st - Earth Hour (8.80-9.30pm)
- WWF’s Earth Hour is a simple idea that’s quickly turned into a global phenomenon. Hundreds of millions of people turning off their lights for one hour, on the same night, all across the planet.
- We are looking for the best photos of staff and students during the switch off - it could could be a picture in front of one of the college buildings, a video of you switching off all the computers in the IT room, or you and your friends at home in the dark after switching everything off. Add your best photo to our Facebook Page Greenthing Bloomsbury to be in with a chance to win.
- The colleges will be switching off for the event. Gather on the grass outside Senate House library at 8.30 to be part of our photo shoot of the blackout.

- To mark Fairtrade Fortnight, join us on our Walk for Fairtrade through the borough of Camden on Saturday 10th March. It will be a fun, celebratory walk to raise awareness of Fairtrade farmers and workers all over the world.

- Go Green Week is People & Planet’s annual national week of action on climate change in schools, colleges and universities. The Bloomsbury Colleges are committed to environmental improvement and actively support Green Week each year. The students across the Bloomsbury Colleges have been hard at work planning some brilliant events for the week with the support of the Greenthing team.
- There are films, games, activities and training sessions across the colleges which students and staff are all welcome to join.

1st - Second-hand Sale
- At the Institute of Education Student Union bar, there will be a sale of unwanted items donated from across the college
- The items include pots, pans, plates and even a bike.
- All items are in a used condition and those interested will be asked to make a donation if they would like to take anything away.
- The collected donations will then be used to support environmental initiatives as decided by the Student Green Group. Please come along and show your support.

- If you are taking part in the cycle challenge this will add to your miles, if you are not already taking part, do your bit for the environment today by cycling.
- If you don't want to cycle but want to try the greener option, walk or take public transport and leave the car at home.
18th - 15th July - TfL Cycle Challenge
- The Cycle Challenge is a competition to see which team can cycle the most miles in a month. Teams that come top win great prizes.
- Why not set up a team to represent your college. Don't forget to let us know so that we can make sure people can contact you to join in.
- The event is still free to enter and the challenge remains to see which team can cycle the most miles in a month. There are no restrictions on who can enter and teams can be created from your workplace, school, family or friends.
