Green Week 2012

Thanks to everyone for a brilliant Green Week! 6th - 12th February 2012.

Go Green Week is People & Planet’s annual national week of action on climate change in schools, colleges and universities

.

The Bloomsbury Colleges are committed to environmental improvement and actively support Green Week each year.

The students across the Bloomsbury Colleges have been hard at work planning some brilliant events for the week with the support of the Green Team. The event was really good fun and lots of people showed their interest and shared ideas.

There were films, games, activities and training sessions across the Colleges which students and staff are all welcome to join. Student and staff alike came along to show support to the environment or your student group.

What happened

SWAP SHOP - This means bringing items in that you no longer need and swapping them for something else you might like. It's a great way of giving those unwanted Christmas presents a new home. People swapped and donated and we were surprised by the quality of items traded. There were definitely a lot of happy customers.

EAT OUT, BLACKOUT - Students in the halls of residence encouraged you to have a cold lunch or eat out on Thursday and to switch all lights and equipment off for an hour. The Peoples Supermarket.were on site promoting their store and proved really popular.

PEOPLES SUPERMARKET - This store aims to provide a sustainable food co-operative for healthy affordable food. They provide information which allows users to make healthy, sustainable choices in their shopping. They were onsite at IOE on Weds and Thurs and generated a lot of interest.

DR BIKE - Some basic bike maintenance for free? - Yes, it's free! The mechanics were in the Senate House Car Park on Tuesday and lots of people braved the cold and snow to get their bikes checked out. These cyclists are tough!

CYCLE SECURITY MARKING - Worried about your bike being safe in the area? Get it marked by the Police so that if it gets lost or stolen they can get it back to you when it's found.

HGV Road Safety - Yes this is a heavy goods vehicle. It was here to try and show all of you pedestrians and cyclists where the blind spots are on larger vehicles. You could go inside the truck and see for yourself.

FILMS - All of our films this week had a sustainability theme. Film buffs and Eco buffs alike should have been pleased.
