Second-hand Sale

This project is led by the IOE Student Green Group. It all started at the John Adams Hall of residences where plenty of unwanted items were found, which included kitchenware, blankets, clothes, books, electronics, glasses, pots & pans, cutlery, plates, bowls and much more.

All items were in a very good condition and some of them were even brand new! Unfortunately they were considered as rubbish and it was planned to send them to landfill. That would be such a waste so the Student Green Group decided to take action and came up with an idea of a Second-hand Sale for students. They have collected all of the items, washed them and prepared them to be sold.

This initiative proved to be very popular and there have been three Second-hand Sales organised already! The first two sales took place on 1st and 5th October at the IOE Student Union Bar, and the most recent sale was held during our Green Fayre 2011 on 27th October.

This was the perfect time for new students to buy all necessary things at the start of the term. All of the people we met were really glad to have the opportunity to get the items they needed at a low price.

Overall more than 200kg of unwanted items were sold, and that means that significant CO2 savings were achieved as they were not sent to landfill!

All items were sold based on donation and prices were negotiated. In total £308 were raised during all three events! This money will be used by IOE Student Green Group to organise events and other activities. Well done!!!

All items which were not sold have been donated to local charities and kept out of landfill. This is a great example of how we can dispose of our waste responsibly and how our unwanted items can be really valuable to someone else.

More second-hand sale events are planned next year so please visit our website regularly to stay updated!
