What can you do to help your college do the Green Thing?

There are so many ways to make a difference at home and at college. Have a look at our tips on what you can do and remember that small actions add up to a big difference:

Don't forget to encourage others to do the same.

If you haven't already, you can sign up to be part of the Green Thing campaign to be a champion for your course or area and find out more when you  sign up online or by emailing greenthing@bloomsbury.ac.uk. You will be sent regular emails letting you know what projects are taking place in the colleges and giving you the opportunity to get involved with events and activities. You will also be sent tips and advice on how you can do the Green Thing at home and at college.

There are many different roles involved in implementing the Environmental Management System at the Colleges. These are outlined in the Organogram structure for the EMS:

If you are interested in the environment or sustainability perhaps you would like to share ideas with other like-minded people. There are various groups at each of the colleges that you can join:

  • Green ChampionsWe would like there to be a green champion for every office area. This means encouraging people to be more sustainable in their actions and checking the performance of your team or area against others. Make sure you sign up online or email greenthing@bloomsbury.ac.uk with your details so that we can provide you with advice and support
  • Official environment and sustainability committees - the membership of these groups is usually formally agreed but you can speak to your group about how to be kept informed of new developments
  • Office Green Teams - These can be made up of any number of people, be focused on different issues and work in different ways. Goals can be modest or ambitious - what counts is doing something and encouraging or facilitating others to do something too! Check your college website to see if there is a Green Team for your area for you to join. If there is no Green Team for your area perhaps you could start one. Make sure you  sign up online or email greenthing@bloomsbury.ac.uk with the details so that we can provide you with advice and support
  • Student Green Groups - These are groups of students who are passionate about the issues and want to influence their peers and the college to make big changes. They can run events and initiatives and will usually have a representative on the Official environment and sustainability committee for their college. Check your college website to see if there is a Green Team for your area for you to join. If there is no Green Team for your area perhaps you could start one.Make sure you sign up online or email greenthing@bloomsbury.ac.uk with the details so that we can provide you with advice and support
