Bloomsbury Colleges LGBT Staff Group

The Bloomsbury Colleges Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Staff Group offers members an opportunity to meet other LGBT staff in the Bloomsbury Colleges and the chance to attend a range of events.

Your staff group
People come to the staff association meetings for lots of different reasons, and we’re hoping to explore those over time. Some people wanted increased visibility for LGBT issues round campus: so we’re planning to put up posters for the coming events, and ask to be included in induction packs for new staff.

Others want to explore issues of sexuality within the workplace – for example campaigning for inclusion in course curricula. And we have decided to find out what else is happening in other colleges round London, both with staff and student organisations, so that we can link up and support each other where appropriate. If there are different issues you’d like to raise, come along and tell us – nothing is set in stone!

Monthly meetings
Our first meeting was in November 2008 and included a talk on Representations of Gays and Lesbians in Film and as part of February's LGBT History month Jeffrey Weeks gave a talk on The World We Have Won and in July Peter Tatchell gave us a talk on the ABC of Campaigning. We are also  intending to organise visits to exhibitions or events elsewhere that have a queer theme, or occasional trips to the pub. We've got some ideas for future events but would be interested in hearing yours.

This Term

For this term Birkbeck's Institute of Gender and Sexuality (BIGS) will be holding a screening and panel discussion of Tick Tock Lullaby on Monday 14th June, 6 - 9pm in the Birkbeck Cinema, 43 Gordon Square, London WC1H 0PD

"Sasha, cartoonist, is still not convinced she wants to be a mother. Time is ticking by and neither she nor her girlfriend Maya can commit to the idea. Presuming that straight people have it easier, she creates two female characters to investigate various procreative plans".

All Welcome
